Library Funding Sources

Measure Q - 2004

Used to retain and enhance library service: hours (staff), collection, and programs. Elimiate revenue shortfalls, fund expanded operating hours, enhance book collection and other materials, expand literacy programs, support joint programs with the OPS, upgrade library technology and computer access.

Measure N - 2006

Was unsuccessful at achieving the 2/3 vote required for passage. Would have constructed a new Main library in the Kaiser Auditorium, expanded specific libraries, and provided needed building upgrades for all the branch libraries.

Capital Improvement Projects (CIP) 2007-2009

During the 2007-09 budget process, Council approved additional CIP funding through Redevelopment Funds and other sources for improvements to various City projects. Elmhurst, MLK, Asian, Brookfield, Melrose, and Rockridge branch libraries will recieve funding for building improvements, such as ADA compliant restrooms, furniture and seating, electrical and data lines, and Teen Zones. Previous funds from the state and other sources will be used towards the new East Oakland Community Library at 81st Avenue.
